New age requirements for 2010 Over the last number of weeks and months WSRA has received inquires both via phone and email regarding experienced 8 year old drivers wanting to race with WSRA in 2010. The concern has been how WSRA can bring in an 8 year old driver with prior race experience from Karting, Mini Sprints and Quarter Midgets and still ensure the safety of the competitors and provide quality race events for the fans and track promoters. We are confident that these concerns can be overcome by attending Rookie School Days as well as an evaluation process that will allow them to participate in Mini Cup competitive events throughout the season. Therefore we will be modifying our 2010 rules to reflect this change. We look forward to increasing the car count with these talented drivers and welcome them to join WSRA for the 2010 season as a rookie in the WSRA Mini Cup Division. Should you have questions about this and or know someone wanting more information, please let us know.

Baby Grand Champion makes NASCAR western late model debut 2008 WSRA Baby Grand Champion Jake Gomes made his NASCAR western late model debut this past Saturday at Madera Speedway in style. Jake Gomes driver of the Toyota #16 late model showed the fans and his competitors he is serious about his move up to late models. In Jake fashion he pulled onto the track for his first time qualifying in a late model and immediately spins himself out! He fires it up and lays down two great laps and qualifies 4 overall. In the first of what was to be twin 50 lap main events for the late models that night, Jake finished 5th . He was setup based on qualifying and invert to start the second race on the pole. That never came to be as the weather god washed out the rest of the race scheduled that night. Great job and congratulations to Jake and Paul Gomes and all of the Gomes Motorsports Team. We look forward to this coming weekend when another former WSRA Mini Cup and Baby Grands driver makes his debut into the world of western late model competition. Justin Wall will be driving the #57 late model this season and we wish him and his team the very best as well. Do the WSRA series proud and we know you will!!

WSRA Schools a Success! WSRA completed the final of two rookie and veteran schools this past weekend. Held at the Madera Speedway, the weather was warm and sunny. What a relief from the past few weekends as we dodged rain coming up to the weekend. Many of the cars sported new paint schemes for the start of the 2009 season and a number of teams are busy putting the final touches on their cars prior to the first race. After completion of the preseason car safety inspections, lunch and a pit meeting the veterans took to the track. Many of them looked as they had just raced the prior week, while most took it easy since they had not been in the car over the winter break. Next out, 5 baby grand rookies and they did a great job. This day represented the second of two days of on-track practice and training within the week for the rookie Mini Cup and Baby Grand teams. The veteran and rookie Mini Cup drivers hit the track and they quickly came up to speed with practice starts and line ups. Most of the day was spent with this group hot lapping and mastering the Madera Speedway racing line. Super job! by all the Mini Cup drivers. The mid-day gave the veteran and rookie Baby Grand drivers a chance to get to know each other on the track, and they practiced side-by-side starts, passing and flat out hot lapping. As with most practice/school events it is a great day when you role your car back in to the trailer without any major damage and that was accomplished by all. Getting to this day is an exciting point for all of WSRA as it means within just a few weeks our season will be underway. We look forward to our first race on March 28th at Madera Speedway.
